They plan to marry. But when Rohit's past comes back to haunt him, Sonia is forced to leave and go back to her native place, Delhi. But Rohit is determined to take her back to Mumbai, so that Sonia can remain by his side .
Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel play the lead roles in the movie, with Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, Raza Murad, Rakesh Bedi, Helen, Vrajesh Hirjee, Rohit Nimbalkar, Masumeh Makhija, and Jaswinder Bhalla in supporting roles. The movie's score and songs are composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with lyrics by Sameer and Sameera. The movie's theme is based on courtship of a commoner against the elite set in the backdrop of Delhi, India.
The movie was a huge critical success. However, the film was critically panned, with its director Hareesh Sahni, writer Subhash Kapoor, producer Arbaaz Ali and lead actor Hrithik Roshan making their directorial debuts.
Plot
A large procession of maroon velvet vehicles, decorated with flowers, celebrates Indian independence day. The whole city is decorated with flags and lamp posts. The family heads out to meet Rohit, the prospective groom, on his birthday. His future mother-in-law thinks that he's a spendthrift who throws his money on liquor. She is impressed with his ideas for the wedding, and approves of the wedding date, but insists that he must take care of the housekeeping.
Meanwhile, Rohit is in love with Sonia, a beautiful bar dancer and a feminist. Their families become friends, and their childhood friends also become good friends. Rohit takes Sonia out for dinner, and they get to know each other better. Rohit's friend's cousin Saajan secretly asks Rohit to stop seeing Sonia, since Rohit is only interested in a rich girl, and not in a poor girl. Rohit is touched by Saajan's concern for his friend's well-being. Later, Rohit goes to a strip club, and runs into Sonia.
The next morning, Rohit asks Saajan to meet him after work. Saajan learns that Sonia is Rohit's girlfriend and refuses to meet Rohit. Meanwhile, Sonia's mother begins to have trouble paying the
